WHY PRODUCT DEMONSTRATORS SUCCEED IN GOOD TIMES OE BAD

True to the title, “Why Product Demonstrators Succeed In Good Times Or Bad,” is no empty claim, and I can back it up. My name is John Milton Lawrence and I'm the founder of, “Product Demonstrators Workshop,” the premier trainer for, “As Seen On TV Product Demonstrators.” Go to your local Grocery or department store, warehouse store, and wherever you turn you will see people of all ages, young and old demonstrating in-store, as seen on TV products. All the while remember we are supposed to be in the greatest economic downturn in modern history, further example's; * go to the state or local fair, in any country * go to any trade show * everyone demonstrates * all ages, all races, all genders * talking to people and demonstrating products It doesn't matter what the economy is doing, because Commerce goes on, in Good times or Bad. You don't need a college degree or even a high school diploma, but you do need the ability to talk to people, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Now you can approach this as a job, and get hired as an employee, but why settle for a piece of the pie, when You Can Have It All. Promote yourself to the Ownership and Presidency of your own business. As an independent contractor, take only the jobs you are interested in, and make a fortune in the process. In my New ebook and audio, “How To Earn $100,000 As An As Seen On TV Product Demonstrator,” I show you how, no more being unemployed or under employed. Shutter the myth that you need to get a job working for someone else and making them rich, the only job security there is, happens to be the security you create for yourself. Profits are better than Wages, wages will help pay the bills, profits will make you rich, every child should be taught from an early age, to aspire to own two bicycle’s, “One To Ride And One To Rent.” Get your electronic copy or digital audio of,“How To Earn $100,000 As An As Seen On TV Product Demonstrator,” and never be out of work again, you have nothing to lose, and Everything To Gain.

Sell To Grow Rich

For me this book is an absolute labor of love and as the title denotes, “Sell To Grow Rich,” is not an empty claim but one that speaks to the very heart of selling as a profession. In Og Madino's best selling book, “The Greatest Salesman In The World,” he say's that in no other profession is there an opportunity to go from poverty to great wealth, than that of selling, and boy is he right. As to whether or not salesman are made or born is a question for the beholder, but if you know my story, sales literally saved my life as an at risk young man, growing up on the mean streets of Harlem, New York who was deep in poverty, and both busted and disgusted. I was also a soon to be father at age 17 with a child on the way. Salesman as a whole have not been given a fair shake, because of a few dishonest individuals who's chief aim was to defraud the customer rather than help the customer make an intelligent buying decision, at the same time delivering to him or her, great value for the money they have spent. In this book were only going to focus on the positive aspects of selling, because the bottom line is that we are all salesman, selling ourselves, our idea's, to others from, our family members to the stranger on the street. If you are in a relationship married or unmarried, you had to sell yourself to the guy or girl of your dreams, so the bottom line is that we are all salesman, and the only difference between you and someone else is whether or not you sell as a profession, to make a living, to earn your money, to pay your bills. My aim in writing this book was to give you an inside view, of the life of a salesman and to show you that they are your neighbors, your pastor, your doctor and yourself, in a day and time when companies are doing massive layoffs, and many people are truly suffering during one of the greatest economic downturns in modern history, don't be a victim of circumstances, take your own destiny in your hands and “Sell To Grow Rich."

How To Earn $100,000 As An As Seen On TV Product Demonstrator

I dropped out of high school in my Jr. year to go to work and help my Mom. With no real skills to speak of I went from dead end job to dead end job. I met a young lady, who would shortly become my teenage bride and at age 17, we were expecting our first child, needless to say we were not ready to be parents, but I did the best I could to provide, things got so bad that we had to move into my brother in-laws attic in Queens, New York. Most of these dead end jobs didn't last too long, and I can remember this sweet little old lady at the Employment office and her name was Mrs. Jacobs, she kinda took a special interest in me, and would always say as she was sending me out on a job interview, John you need a skill, and she was right. After years and years of dead end low paying Jobs, God must have heard my prayers because one day when I got home from work, my wife approached me excitedly saying she met this girl at the Woolworths store down on main street and this girl was demonstrating this product in the store and asked her if she wanted a Job, my wife told her that she didn't think she could do it, but she knew someone who could, and that someone was me. I went down the next day got the Job and it was paying $500 dollars a week, I couldn't believe it, that job and the opportunity it provided in the way of money and other benefits was astounding, for me it was the closest thing to a miracle in my life. We called it the Pitch business as I marketed various as seen on TV, products through in store demonstrations. This was one of the easiest ways of earning money, I'd ever seen, we teach you how, in our Product Demonstrators Workshop.

Three Feet From Gold

THREE FEET FROM GOLD
One of the most common causes of failure is the habit
of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary
defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one
time or another.
An uncle of R. U. Darby was caught by the ‘gold
fever’ in the gold-rush days, and went west to DIG
AND GROW RICH. He had never heard that more gold has
been mined from the brains of men than has ever been
taken from the earth. He staked a claim and went to
work with pick and shovel. The going was hard, but
his lust for gold was definite.
After weeks of labor, he was rewarded by the
discovery of the shining ore. He needed machinery to
bring the ore to the surface. Quietly, he covered up
the mine, retraced his footsteps to his home in
Williamsburg, Maryland, told his relatives and a few
neighbors of the ‘strike.’ They got together money
for the needed machinery, had it shipped. The uncle
and Darby went back to work the mine.
The first car of ore was mined, and shipped to a
smelter. The returns proved they had one of the
richest mines in Colorado! A few more cars of that
ore would clear the debts. Then would come the big
killing in profits.
Down went the drills! Up went the hopes of Darby and
Uncle! Then something happened! The vein of gold ore
disappeared! They had come to the end of the rainbow,
and the pot of gold was no longer there! They drilled
on, desperately trying to pick up the vein again— all to no avail.
Finally, they decided to QUIT.
They sold the machinery to a junk man for a few
hundred dollars, and took the train back home. Some
‘junk’ men are dumb, but not this one! He called in a
mining engineer to look at the mine and do a little
calculating. The engineer advised that the project
had failed, because the owners were not familiar with
‘fault lines.’ His calculations showed that the vein
would be found JUST THREE FEET FROM WHERE THE DARBYS
HAD STOPPED DRILLING! That is exactly where it was
found!
The ‘Junk’ man took millions of dollars in ore from
the mine, because he knew enough to seek expert
counsel before giving up.
Most of the money which went into the machinery was
procured through the efforts of R. U. Darby, who was
then a very young man. The money came from his
relatives and neighbors, because of their faith in
him. He paid back every dollar of it, although he was
years in doing so.
Long afterward, Mr. Darby recouped his loss many
times over, when he made the discovery that DESIRE
can be transmuted into gold. The discovery came after
he went into the business of selling life insurance.
Remembering that he lost a huge fortune, because he
STOPPED three feet from gold, Darby profited by the
experience in his chosen work, by the simple method
of saying to himself, ‘I stopped three feet from
gold, but I will never stop because men say 'no' when
I ask them to buy insurance.’
Darby is one of a small group of fewer than fifty men
who sell more than a million dollars in life
insurance annually. He owes his ‘stickability’ to the
lesson he learned from his ‘quitability’ in the gold
mining business.
Before success comes in any man's life, he is sure to
meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some
failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and
most logical thing to do is to QUIT. That is exactly
what the majority of men do.
More than five hundred of the most successful men
this country has ever known, told the author their
greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them. Failure is a
trickster with a keen sense of irony and cunning. It
takes great delight in tripping one when success is
almost within reach.

I Am The Master Of My Fate

YOU ARE ‘THE MASTER OF YOUR FATE, THE CAPTAIN OF YOUR
SOUL,’ BECAUSE…
When Henley wrote the prophetic lines, ‘I am the
Master of my Fate, I am the Captain of my Soul,’ he
should have informed us that we are the Masters of
our Fate, the Captains of our Souls, because we have
the power to control our thoughts.
He should have told us that the ether in which this
little earth floats, in which we move and have our
being, is a form of energy moving at an inconceivably
high rate of vibration, and that the ether is filled
with a form of universal power which ADAPTS itself to
the nature of the thoughts we hold in our minds; and
INFLUENCES us, in natural ways, to transmute our
thoughts into their physical equivalent.
If the poet had told us of this great truth, we would
know WHY IT IS that we are the Masters of our Fate,
the Captains of our Souls. He should have told us,
with great emphasis, that this power makes no attempt
to discriminate between destructive thoughts and
constructive thoughts, that it will urge us to
translate into physical reality thoughts of poverty,
just as quickly as it will influence us to act upon
thoughts of riches.
He should have told us, too, that our brains become
magnetized with the dominating thoughts which we hold in our minds, and, by means with which no man is
familiar, these ‘magnets’ attract to us the forces,
the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize
with the nature of our dominating thoughts.
He should have told us, that before we can accumulate
riches in great abundance, we must magnetize our
minds with intense DESIRE for riches, that we must
become ‘money conscious until the DESIRE for money
drives us to create definite plans for acquiring it.

They Can Because They Think They Can

‘If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't
If you like to win, but you think you can't,
It is almost certain you won't.
.
‘If you think you'll lose, you're lost
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will—
It's all in the state of mind.
.
‘If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
.
‘Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!’

The "Impossible" Ford V8 Motor

A few years back, Ford decided to produce his now
famous V-8 motor. He chose to build an engine with
the entire eight cylinders cast in one block, and
instructed his engineers to produce a design for the
engine. The design was placed on paper, but the
engineers agreed, to a man, that it was simply
impossible to cast an eight-cylinder gas engine block
in one piece.
Ford said, ‘Produce it anyway.’
‘But,’ they replied, ‘it's impossible!’
‘Go ahead,’ Ford commanded, ‘and stay on the job
until you succeed no matter how much time is
required.’
The engineers went ahead. There was nothing else for
them to do, if they were to remain on the Ford staff.
Six months went by, nothing happened. Another six
months passed, and still nothing happened. The
engineers tried every conceivable plan to carry out
the orders, but the thing seemed out of the question;
‘impossible!’
At the end of the year Ford checked with his
engineers, and again they informed him they had found
no way to carry out his orders.
‘Go right ahead,’ said Ford, ‘I want it, and I'll
have it.’
They went ahead, and then, as if by a stroke ofmagic, the secret was discovered.
The Ford DETERMINATION had won once more!

A Fifty Cent Lesson In Persistence

A FIFTY-CENT LESSON IN PERSISTENCE
Shortly after Mr. Darby received his degree from the
‘University of Hard Knocks,’ and had decided to
profit by his experience in the gold mining business,
he had the good fortune to be present on an occasion
that proved to him that ‘No’ does not necessarily
mean no.
One afternoon he was helping his uncle grind wheat in
an old fashioned mill. The uncle operated a large
farm on which a number of colored sharecrop farmers
lived. Quietly, the door was opened, and a small
colored child, the daughter of a tenant, walked in
and took her place near the door.
The uncle looked up, saw the child, and barked at her
roughly, ‘what do you want?’
Meekly, the child replied, ‘My mammy say send her
fifty cents.’
‘I'll not do it,’ the uncle retorted, ‘Now you run on
home.’
‘Yas sah,’ the child replied. But she did not move.
The uncle went ahead with his work, so busily engaged
that he did not pay enough attention to the child to
observe that she did not leave. When he looked up and
saw her still standing there, he yelled at her, ‘I
told you to go on home! Now go, or I'll take a switch
to you.’
The little girl said ‘yas sah,’ but she did not budge
an inch.
The uncle dropped a sack of grain he was about to
pour into the mill hopper, picked up a barrel stave,
and started toward the child with an expression on
his face that indicated trouble.
Darby held his breath. He was certain he was about to
witness a murder. He knew his uncle had a fierce
temper. He knew that colored children were not
supposed to defy white people in that part of the
country. When the uncle reached the spot where the child was
standing, she quickly stepped forward one step,
looked up into his eyes, and screamed at the top of
her shrill voice, ‘MY MAMMY'S GOTTA HAVE THAT FIFTY
CENTS!’
The uncle stopped, looked at her for a minute, then
slowly laid the barrel stave on the floor, put his
hand in his pocket, took out half a dollar, and gave
it to her.
The child took the money and slowly backed toward the
door, never taking her eyes off the man whom she had
just conquered. After she had gone, the uncle sat
down on a box and looked out the window into space
for more than ten minutes. He was pondering, with
awe, over the whipping he had just taken.
Mr. Darby, too, was doing some thinking. That was the
first time in all his experience that he had seen a
colored child deliberately master an adult white
person. How did she do it? What happened to his uncle
that caused him to lose his fierceness and become as
docile as a lamb? What strange power did this child
use that made her master over her superior? These and
other similar questions flashed into Darby's mind,
but he did not find the answer until years later,
when he told me the story.
Strangely, the story of this unusual experience was
told to the author in the old mill, on the very spot
where the uncle took his whipping. Strangely, too, I
had devoted nearly a quarter of a century to the
study of the power which enabled an ignorant,
illiterate colored child to conquer an intelligent
man.
As we stood there in that musty old mill, Mr. Darby
repeated the story of the unusual conquest, and
finished by asking, ‘What can you make of it? What
strange power did that child use, that so completely
whipped my uncle?’
The answer to his question will be found in the
principles described in the Free book, "The Magic Of Persistence."

Ebook Review Show- John Milton Lawrence- Beginners guide to fearless public speaking

How to Master Your Fear of Public Speaking

Before going into Fear less public speaking you'll notice I've
broken up the word
fearless into two words fear-less, the reason being if we go right
to the root of what we
fear and learn to fear-less, then we are better equipped to deal
with whatever may be at
hand, whether it's making a speech or going after our dreams, which
up to this point, we
have let fear keep us from striving to achieve it. It may be the
fear of failure, it may be
the fear of public humiliation or whatever, was it Roosevelt who
said the only thing we
have to fear, is fear itself. He had a keen understanding that most
fears were largely,
rooted in our imagination, the French emperor Napoleon said that
Imagination was a
stronger force than will power, case in point, think about a habit
like smoking, we make
the resolve to stop smoking, and by the sheer force of our wills,
we stop for a week or
maybe two, then one night your watching a program on TV, and the
character your
watching is puffing on a cigarette, you try to resist, by will
power but as the character
draws on the cigarette, and blows out the smoke he or she makes it
look so good, that
your imagination starts to, bring up images when you were smoking,
and before you
know it, you have given in, and reached for a smoke, so much for
your resolve not to
smoke. We as human being are present in the community of self, the
intended ruler is the
will, but the will can be hijacked by the imagination, the
emotions, the flesh or whatever,
so it is our job to make sure the intended ruler of self is the
will power, by doing this you
will be in the position to manage your thoughts, thus managing your
fears.

Beginners Guide to fearless public speaking

let me start by saying for all of you who get frightened at the prospects of speaking inpublic, fear no more, anyone can become a confident and entertaining speaker with a little practice and know-how. You can approach public speaking in two ways, one is Inspiration, there are many public speakers who with nothing more than the topic, speak directly from the heart , meaning whatever inspired words come to mind about their particular topic, that's what they speak on.Now all of us are not so lucky, because when were nervous, nothing that makes sense, comes out of our mouth's. Most people use the second approach, taken from an actors training workshop that says"security is in knowing your lines"know what it is you want to say, write it down and stand before a mirror and practice it, then practice the practicing, then when it comes time to give your presentation you will deliver it like a pro.Above all remember as a public speaker, you are a teacher, imparting useful information to your audience, so the next time you are called on to make a speech, fear less, and speak more, with confidence, and know more than anything, that your audience wants
you to succeed.

Pressure can bust a pipe

Speak up- Speak out, don't keep it bottled inside. There's more room on the outside than the inside, to keep the things that bother or concern you locked up. Pressure can and will bust a pipe, express yourself. Everywhere around the world, people have decided the revolution is about freedom, the freedom to express their views, without persecution or the fear of death. If you have something to say, say it don't let the self consciousness of speaking in public stop you, the message is more important than you.

On Leadership- You cant come in a Pussycat ,then turn into a Lion.- John Milton Lawrence, "speak or get benched

A very simple truth is this, you catch more flies, with honey, than you do with vinegar, let me explain. One employer, started out being decent, kind and understanding to his employee's, then when the sales numbers dropped, he turned, cold and verbally abusive to get results. This did not work because no one of the employees took him serious, they just saw him as someone who now wanted to intimidate and BULLY them to get results, they did not respond. Now as the business owner sat pondering, what would be the fate of his business, because he has realized, if you fail at human relationships, you fail at business, you fail at LIFE. Though not advised, he would have stood a better chance coming in a Lion, then turning into a pussycat, you can never come in a pussycat, then turn into a Lion, you will be seen as,desperate and weak.

How to Master you fear of public speaking

Everyone knows that choosing a great topic for your speech, is half the battle won. So how do you choose an appropriate topic for your speech? First of all, ask yourself, what are your interests and area's of expertise, chances are, if it is something that bores you, it will also bore your audience. There is no quicker way to commit public speaking suicide, than by lulling your audience to sleep, with a boring speech. People will tune you out, so choose a topic, you are really passionate about, because the upside is that people will respond, they will feel your passion, your excitement, your interest in what you are saying, remember excitement and enthusiasm is contagious. Be definite and clear about your topic, one side of the road or the other, no mediocre middle of the road stuff, because you know what happens to things that are middle of the road, they end up as road kill. What are your own personal experiences, because there is strength in what you've gone through in your life, who can speak on you, better than you. Another way to choose a dynamic topic, is to draw from the main stream media, it's like the flavor of the month, or the book of the month club, what's popular this month. Most importantly emphasize what you learned from the experience, and how it can help your audience. You are there to deliver something of value to your audience, and it is what they expect. Focus on the message not the messenger, and you will master your fear of public speaking.

David the author vs Goliath the publisher

America land of the free, home of the brave, this is what David the author, believed and thought, the ideal of America and American business, was a fair and competitive marketplace. David would soon come to know the 800 pound publishing giant, Goliath the publisher, makes his own rules. When it should be strictly about business, they chose to make it personal, by censoring or attempting to nit pick and prolong the publication of a book, that is religious in nature, someone at Goliath's business, has lost sight that it is about free speech, David assures the readers, that his words were not there to anger or incite anyone, but rather to make us think, as the greatest work we will do, is on OURSELVES. My aim in loading a stone into my SLINGSHOT, is only in defense, because turmult and oppression, are worst than slaughter. first of all, I did not throw the first stone, I did not draw first blood, I DAVID, only wrote a BOOK!

Practice Fearless Speaking, not Fearful Listening

Practice Fearless Speaking, not fearful listening Now that may seem like an odd headline, but when you think about it in the context of, speaking in public, or judging others, when you listen, through your fears, and prejudices, you don't get very far because, listening through your fears and prejudices, gives you a very distorted view of things. Id' like to list this poem, I heard Dr. Wayne Dyer recite, but I don't know who the author is, the name of the poem is-                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   A woman was waiting at the airport one night,
With several long hours before her flight.
She hunted for a book in the airport shop,
Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.

She was engrossed in her book, but happened to see,
That the man beside her, as bold as could be,
Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag between,
Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene

She read, munched cookies, and watched the clock,
As the gustly "cookie thief" diminished her stock
She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,
Thinking, "If I wasn't so nice, I'd blacken his eye!"

With each cookie she took, he took one too.
When only one was left, she wondered what he'd do.
with a smile on his face and a nervous laugh,
He took the last cookie and broke it in half.

He offered her half, and he ate the other.
She snatched it from him and thought, "Oh brother,
This guy has some nerve, and he's also so rude,
Why, he didn't even show any gratitude!"

She had never known when she had been so galled,
And sighed with relief when her flight was called.
She gathered her belongings and headed for the gate,
Refusing to look at the "thieving ingrate".

She boarded the plane and sank in her seat,
Then sought her book, which was almost complete.
As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise.
There were her bag of cookies in front of her eyes!

"If mine are here," she moaned with despair.
"Then the others were his and he tried to share!"
Too late to apologize, she realized with grief,
That she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief!!!!

The Power of a Good Speech, to Persuade

A good speech has the power to persuade Were going to use the Reality show, survivor, for an example, someone in the group has ruffled the feathers of many of the other tribe members, and have been considered weak, and disliked, for some reason, or another. The majority of the other members of the tribe, have their own reason for joining the alpha mindset, in wanting to vote this member off. Now this is where the majority mindset of a good majority of the tribe members are set upon, SENDING THIS PERSON, home. This is where that person who is failing in the social struggle, has come to a FORK IN THE ROAD, they can simply accept it, or if they want to stay in the game, they will fight on. They decide to go to a few of the people, they know don't like them, under the hope that they, can persuade them to reconsider voting you off. You know you must tell them the best story you can, to persuade them to your way of thinking, you do this to several people, but because you have decided to speak up, and to speak out in behalf and in your own DEFENSE. Now it is time for tribal council, has your plan, your game saving speech, convinced and persuaded those members to not vote you out. Tribal council is here, and when Jeff, the host asks you anything, and if he doesn't, you will speak out, to get your short speech about how, it seems as those there are many members, who want to vote me out, let me say, first of all, I would very much like to stay, and I am sorry if some of my behavior has annoyed, any of you, if you keep me here, I will earn the groups trust, and one last thing, I know I didn't reach out to get to know most of you, but if I stay, I look forward, to knowing about you, and your families. The tribe votes, and it is close, between you and someone else in the tribe, the last vote, the deciding vote is read, followed by the second member to be voted off survivor digital story is,........ and it's not your name, your fight rather than flight response, led you to, speak up and speak out to tell a very persuasive story to win more time in the game, to possibly win ONE MILLION DOLLARS. Ah the power of a good speech, to persuade.

Fearless Public Speaking

Most people suffer from what's known as Glossophobia, or stage fright, when called on to make a toast at a wedding, or any situation we are called on to speak in public, our knees get weak, we get butterflies in our stomach's, our palms start to sweat and the words come out sounding like were from outer space. If this sounds like you, don't worry because you are not alone, millions of people have the Fear of public speaking. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld says " when it comes to funerals, most people would rather be the one in the casket, than the one giving the eulogy". Good news! Help is on the way. The fear that you have of public speaking, is basically, an imaginary factor, and anything imagined, can be unimagined. Was it former President Roosevelt who said "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself". You can learn to be a fearless, more confidant speaker in 30 days or less, Vince Lombardi, the famed football coach said, "The Price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand."

Speaking about what makes you angry, eliminates Fear

While this may sound a bit out of the norm, to speak about what makes you angry, is a very effective technique. Dale Carnegie the author of "How to win friends and influence people" discovered this, completely by accident. The logic behind this, is, to notice how passionate people can be, when they have been hurt or wronged in some way. I can absolutely tell you, if you have been wronged and had to get up in front of an audience, the city council or who ever, you would not be focused on your fear, but rather your grievance, nothing could be easier. When crafting your speech, make sure it is about something you are really passionate about, something that kind of makes you angry, some injustice you would like to right. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. found his passion, in the civil rights movement, and his desire for equality for all people and genders, it made him a fearless and passionate public speaker, even in the face of death. So ask yourself, what makes you mad, the people of Egypt, were so angry, with what many would say was 30 years of oppression, their anger, brought about a REVOLUTION, the phycsological barrier of FEAR, had been broken, and Pharoah could oppress no more.

Speak or get Benched

This post is titled, after the name of the blog, and speaks to fact, that many people have short circuited their personal growth, by allowing fear to dictate their lives. We use the analogy of an athlete, to make our point. When people are paying you big bucks, and expect you to deliver, what happens, if he doesn't perform, or live up to his potential, he gets benched. Who want's to sit on the sidelines of any sport, while all the other players, are in the game. Even the sport of life, many people are content to let others, have all the adventures, make all the big money, while they sit idly by complaining or having a pity party. My answer to that is to cry two tears in a bucket and if that don't fill it ___________, well you know the rest. There are many people out there, who could otherwise benefit, a lot of people, with their acumen, but instead, have let their fears mute them, because of their fear of public speaking, I'm here to say to you, rise to your greatest heights, your greatest potential, your best self, lead, follow or get the hell out of the way. Speak or get benched.

Using Humor as an Icebreaker, in Public Speaking

I can remember the very first time, I was called on at my local Toastmasters group, to give my icebreaker speech. I had to stand in front of a room full of strangers, introduce myself, and tell them, who I was and what I do. After all isn't that what everyone we meet wants to know. I stood up, told them my name and my background in the entertainment business, and my role working for my celebrity brother. The only problem was that I was no longer working for him. It's funny when people hear you have a celebrity in your family, they automatically assume, that you have what they have, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Everyone no matter who they are, still has to make their own way, their own name, and especially their own money. I simply told the audience, I was no longer working for my brother, we had parted ways, because of creative differences, and the group loved it, and thought that line, was a very funny way to put it. I'm not ashamed to say, I borrowed that line from the movie Mommy Dearest, when the actor playing Louis B. Mayer fired Joan Crawford, (played by Faye Dunnaway) from the studio. So you see how a little impromptu humor can go a long way, Remember when in need of humor, if you don't have it, Borrow it! Entertainers, are not always the outgoing people, they appear to be in the public eye, the late entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. uses humor in his book "Yes I can," when describing the obstacles he had to overcome, in HOLLYWOOD, he says, about himself, what could be funnier, than a black, one eyed  Jew, and people loved him, as he achieved his own personal success, with friends like the late Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra. So learn to make a friend of humor, and you'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

Nothing succeeds, like success, in Public Speaking

What we mean by, "nothing succeeds, like success in public speaking" is exactly how it sounds. Were going to look at a public speaking success story. Case in point the Christian Pastor Joel Osteen, who is the leader of one of the largest churches and congregations, in the United States. It's called a Mega-church, but is wasn't always that way. Joel would be the first one to tell you, that he had no desire to pastor a church. Prior to his father's passing, he loved what he was doing, by being a behind the scenes guy. Then after sickness, his father passed away, Joel was called on to pastor the church, and refused by using every excuse in the book, but God had a different plan for him. Fast forward twelve years, here is a man with no prior public speaking experience, who is a poised, confident and eloquent speaker, why because he discovered the secret. What is the secret, plain and simply that the power is in the doing, the more you do, the more you are able to do. Use Joel's story as an inspiration for your own public speaking success, do less stressing and more speaking.

I'ts the Message not the Messenger

Just as the title implies, it's the message, not the messenger. One sure way to set yourself up for failure is to focus on the me, me, me, remember you are there to impart useful information to your audience, that will help them solve a particular problem. By targeting your audience, and knowing what their interests are, you have tailored your speech, to speak to their interests and concerns not yours. One can teach some of the finer points of public speaking, but the speaker must have an inward desire to say something, to express something of value. Then with all the might and passion you can muster, get up and do it. You might have heard me tell the story from Claude M. Bristol's book, "The Magic of Believing" about the great Magician Howard Thurston, who loved to entertain his audience through magic. Before going out on the stage he would always remind himself, that is was about the audience, and not him. He would say to himself prior to getting on stage, "I love my audience, and I'm going to give them the best, that's in me. The audience responded and he made $2 million dollars, in yesterdays money. No one is really wealthy, until his desires include, the concern for others.

Speak and Grow Rich

Let me start by saying for all of you who get frightened at the prospects of speaking in public, fear no more, anyone can become a confident and entertaining speaker with a little practice and know-how. You can approach public speaking in two ways, one is Inspiration, there are many public speakers who with nothing more than the topic, speak directly from the heart , meaning whatever inspired words come to mind about their particular topic, that's what they speak on. Now all of us are not so lucky, because when were nervous, nothing that makes sense comes out of our mouth's. Most people use the second approach, taken from an actors training workshop that says "security is in knowing your lines"know what it is you want to say, write it down and stand before a mirror and practice it, then practice the practicing, then when it comes time to give your presentation you will deliver it like a pro. Above all remember as a public speaker, you are a teacher, imparting useful information to your audience, so the next time you are called on to make a speech, fear less, and speak more, with confidence, and know that your audience wants you to succeed. The funny thing about fear, is that it is basically at it's core an imaginary thing. what was it that Roosevelt said "the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself." Now that we know exactly what it is that may be keeping us from being all we can be, its time to clear our minds, our imaginations. Don't create monsters in your mind, that aren't there, what you see is what you get. Instead of seeing yourself failing at public speaking, change the channel in your mind, and you'll be surprised at what a difference it will make. Learn to go into the talking mode in your head, telling yourself positive things, rather than being in the listening mode, that keeps telling you you will fail. Being an accomplished public speaker, can make a big difference in your income. Gain the know how, so you can Speak and Grow rich.
